Being in NY and a big fan of the culinary art, I gave myself the duty of visiting some restaurants that I found while I was walking through the streets of the big apple. The first restaurant that I picked was one from my favorite street, Restaurant Row on 46th between 8th & 9th Avenues, It was Becco and I went with my friend Jig while he was visiting the city. I didn't really check the menu before going in, I just picked it for the nice little tables that they have outside. We got there without a reservation and I must say that we didn't get one of the nice outside tables since we were walk-ins, at dinner time. If you are from South America and are used to having dinner late, you will be very lucky because by the time we left those 3 tables were empty and ready for service. This unique restaurant is like a labyrinth inside, tiny and with tight halls and several rooms with varying decoration each. The place makes you feel comfortable, its cozy, with dim lighting, but at the same time noisy with small tables so close to each other. The place is not a trattoria but I can say that the food is plentiful. The service is good, hostesses and waiters were really nice, but maybe sometimes a little bit impersonal. And getting to the main point, the food, we had carpaccio and antipasto misto as an appetizer, I can recomend the Carpaccio. It was thin enough and soft, accompanied with mixed greens and balasmic vinagrette. My choice was the Sinfonia the Pasta, where I got 3 different kind of pasta; fettucini, gnudi and spaguetti with different sauces. My favorite: Fettucini. There are a couple of waiters passing around the tables with a frying pan offering you more pasta. Jig, on the other hand, had the pesce intero del giorno, that seems to be good, since he ate it all... he he he. A good sign coming from someone of Thai descent. Finally, the wine list is generous. And in order to really accompany the food with a good wine without having to worry about the price, Becco has one price for all selections, which I found very clever and I loved it!by Karla Juced
